Poetry Retreat: ‘Who Do You Say That I Am?’
Irish poet John F Deane invited poets to respond to Jesus’ question. He made no presuppositions about the poets’ belief in God, or in the divinity of Jesus. This retreat will focus on responses in poetry to Jesus’ question: “Who do you say that I am?”. The question is addressed to all seekers and searchers, as well as to the disciples in the gospel scene.
Likewise, no presuppositions are made about the state of belief of those attending this retreat. The only qualification required is an openness to explore these poetic responses.
A small selection of these poems will be the subject of reflection and prayer in this retreat. Poems by Wendell Berry, Wendy Cope, John F Deane and Seamus Heaney will be included. The day will comprise short inputs, and plenty of time, space and quiet to sit with the material. This one-day retreat will be facilitated by Eoin Garrett.
