Aileen Murphy RLR reflects on Mary’s encounter with the angel Gabriel. Mary’s capacity to hold, ponder, accept opens Mary to receive again and again throughout her life. May we follow Mary’s example this Advent in opening the door of our hearts to God’s life in unexpected places.
Advent Retreat <Online>
In this guided prayer, Mary Hunt journeys with the shepherds to the cave of the Nativity where they encounter Mary, Joseph and the infant Jesus. The text on which the reflection is based is found in Luke's Gospel.
Reflecting on your diverse experiences of waiting in 2020, Aileen Murphy RLR looks to Ignatius’ inner discoveries where you may find some resonance or connections in seeing where God’s creative spirit has been with you throughout these months. Paul’s letter to the Romans is offered to further your prayer.
Aileen Murphy RLR offers a guided meditation based on Hannah’s prayer. Hannah’s honest prayer to God from her grief and resentment releases an interior space, in which God gifts her with her heart’s desire. How will you bring your experiences of 2020 to our generous God who awaits you? The text on which the guided meditation is found in the First Book of Samuel
Mary Hunt reflects on the rôle of the Magi - the 'Wise Men' who travelled from afar in search of their goal. Mary begins by recalling Meister Eckhart's question and continues to pose other questions to guide your Advent reflection:
“What good is it to me
If this eternal birth of the Divine Son
Takes place unceasingly
But does not take place within myself”.
While we are aware of the limitations of online retreats, we have also enjoyed exploring the possibilities. The response and suggestions of those who have joined us have shaped what we offer - for which we are grateful.
A significant part of many retreats has been the opportunity to engage in conversation with others and the presenters.
We are glad to offer a number of opportunities to meet online for reflection and prayer during Advent.
