To love the Earth (Brendan Comerford SJ) <Online>
We have only begun to love the Earth
Poets help us to notice beauty in the commonplace. Brendan Comerford SJ will guide your reflection on the lives and insights of a number of poets whose faith and spirituality brought them to deep appreciation of their creaturehood. Their work continues to invite us into mystery, even if the details of their stories seem challenging or contradictory.
The lives and poetry of George Herbert, Gerard Manley Hopkins, Patrick Kavanagh, R.S. Thomas, Denise Levertov and Elizabeth Jennings will be a stimulus for us to pray and to reflect on our relationship with God, on our own human nature and on the gift of the earth which is our sacred sanctuary.
Participation in this retreat will involve being given access to an online presentation on a different poet each morning; in the evening, Brendan will respond to any questions or comments which have been submitted by participants. The rest of the day is an invitation to participants to develop their own timetable around these daily elements.
Participants are emailed a link each day between Monday 19 October and Saturday 24 October 2020. The email will give
- access to an online video presentation by Brendan
- a link to a page with associated poems scripture references - pointers to particular poems to encourage personal reflection and prayer.
- an opportunity to respond to the presentation
- access to a videoconference which will take place each evening at 7:00 p.m. This is an opportunity to meet Brendan online (using Zoom) where there will be time for Brendan speak further about the poet in focus on that day and to respond to questions or comments offered by participants earlier that day.
