Kitchen Assistant

Manresa Jesuit Centre of Spirituality is a core activity of the Society of Jesus in Ireland, providing residential and non-residential retreats, courses and events. The retreat house accommodates 42 people in individual ensuite rooms, welcoming individuals and groups for overnight stays, courses and retreats of varying lengths. The site also comprises communities of resident and in-formation Jesuits.

Key Duties

The key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness in the kitchen and associated areas
  • With the kitchen team, maintaining HAACP standards
  • Cleaning all used pots and pans
  • Cleaning and sanitizing all work surfaces and kitchen implements
  • Ensuring tidiness and cleanliness in storage areas
  • Sweeping and mopping all floors
  • Vegetable and salad preparation
  • Ensuring bins, recycling and composting are disposed of appropriately
  • Receiving food deliveries under the supervision of the Senior Chef/ Chef
  • Checking the temperature of goods upon delivery

Key Requirements

  • Previous experience in a similar role
  • Ability to work in a team and communicate well
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • A good command of the English language
  • Punctuality
  • Flexibility
  • Ability to stay calm in difficult situations

Time, duration and reporting

  • Hours are approx. 30 hours per week, flexible over 7 days.
  • Typical working hours are 7:00am to 2:00pm with some longer hours and occasional variations
  • Days of work are flexible over 7 days of the week
  • The Kitchen Assistant reports to the Senior Chef
  • There will be a three month probationary period
