Practicum in Retreat Direction

Starting in September each year, we offer a one-year Practicum in Retreat Direction here in Manresa.  This programme will be complementary to the two-year Course in Spiritual Direction, and will offer further training specifically in directing retreats. In the course of the programme, each participant will be expected to direct at least three 6 or 8-day directed retreats, including the delivery of homilies at the daily Eucharist.  Each participant will also assist in at least one lay weekend, one other weekend event, and, where feasible, in one or more of our evening events.

Participants will have a personal mentor for the duration of the Practicum, who will meet with them on a regular basis to help them prepare for the event, monitor performance, give support and evaluate their strengths and weaknesses. In addition participants will receive supervision of their work.  In the course of the programme, some guided reading will be required in the areas of Scripture, spiritual direction, discernment and Ignatian spirituality.  For those who have not made the full Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, an opportunity will be offered of making them in the form of Exercises in Daily Life (Annotation 19).

For further information, please contact Fr. Paddy Carberry, S.J., Director, Manresa, at (01) 833 1352.
