St. Ignatius at the movies |
|

Ever noticed how film can engage your attention and captivate your imagination? When we go to the movies we step into another world, a world where we are entertained and also challenged, provoked and moved.
So what has St. Ignatius to do with the movies? Living in the sixteenth century, St. Ignatius never got the chance to see a film, but he was highly attentive to the imagination and the emotions as places of everyday spiritual encounter. If Ignatius was at the movies, we reckon he would have suggested an Ignatian way of watching!
So, using the powerful medium of film, together with personal reflection and group discussion, this new weekly series of eight evenings proposes a cinematic journey through some of the major themes of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola.
The series will run each Wednesday for eight weeks, starting in October, 2010.
As each evening will build on the previous one, participation in all eight evenings is important, as is the willingness to engage with and reflect on each of the films personally and in small groups. No prior knowledge of the Spiritual Exercises is needed.
Time: 7.30-10.00pm.
Director: Sr. Avril O'Regan, R.L.R.
Cost: €160 for the series.
